WEEK 14 - PHILADELPHIA TO WASHINGTON DC - wednesday 28 july 2010

Friday, August 13, 2010 | |

today we said farewell to our amazing host Akshay, he is so awesome, and we hope to see him next year in nz for the rugby world cup [lucky we live 5 minutes drive from the stadium!] he walked us to the bus station, we booked a chinatown bus, because it was cheap. never again. i thought we were going to die. i have never had such a crappy driver in my entire life! he tailgated, slammed on the brakes like crazy, and everytime we turned a corner, the bus made this awful whining groaning noise, like it was like ‘nooooo! no more turning! please!’
but we made it, were greeted by more crazy homeless people, and then we walked to James [our washington host] work to pick up the keys. He’s really nice, and we are looking forward to getting to know him. while i was inside getting the keys, joseph got attacked with a running monologue by a crazy homeless guy, who didnt take a breath when speaking and went from tangent to tangent. ask joseph for an impersonation :)
we went back to james’ lovely apartment and spent the afternoon sleeping, [we stayed up late talking to Akshay, oops!] and then met up with James at the W Hotel by the white house, he was there for a work dinner, and they were going up the top of the hotel to the bar, and so we got to skip the line, and go with them [felt very VIP!], and went to this flash bar with amazing views of Washington DC. we even got to see Obama come home on his jet plane thing. very cool! [i missed getting a photo of it though :( ]
all in all, a really nice evening, feeling like an under-dressed celebrity! :)
