WEEK 14 - WASHINGTON DC - thursday 29 july 2010

Friday, August 13, 2010 | |

this morning we planned our sightseeing for the next five days. there are buses here, but none of them seem to be aimed at sightseeing loops, so we are just gonna walk. theres a weekly pass, but it only runs from sunday - saturday, which is completely useless for us!
we set off to see the lincoln monument and the world war two war museum, and we got as far as the white house before we got rained out. like soaking wet. there was this HUGE crack of thunder, we thought a bomb had gone off, and i was like ‘oh my gosh!’, but it was just the loudest thunder ive EVER heard! we couldnt get a taxi due to the fact we were soaking wet, so we got some plastic bags to wrap my camera in [my handbag is not waterproof], and walked back home, where i am now blogging and colour correcting photos for you guys. we will just compact what we were going to do today, into the next few days, theres no point going out again just for two hours and its still kinda raining.

in the evening we met up with james at his work, and headed over to Ping Pong, an asian restaurant for yummy dumplings, which i have been craving like crazy since we left [theres a great place on Dominion Road in Auckland, called Shanghai something-a-rather, the sign is green, its near the wendys, but on the other side of the road and down a bit, order the Juicy dumplings, soooo good! and cheap! $8!]
ping pong was really nice, moody lighting, reminds me of ponsonby road style eateries, with really funky asian inspired cocktails, and after ordering, we ended up with baskets and plates of steaming hot dumplings and dim sum, sooooo good! my tummy was singing with happiness :)
