WEEK 12 - NETHERLANDS - sunday 11 july 2010 - tuesday 13 july 2010

Monday, July 26, 2010 | |

today is sunday and its the day of the soccer world cup final and the whole town is excited. we spent the day relaxing at home in the cool air conditioning since joseph got sun burnt yesterday on the boat trip. we were planning on heading into amsterdam to watch the game at 8.30pm, but the public transport had been closed due to the volume of people going into the city, and we were an hour away and didnt fancy walking!
so alas, we were forced to relax at home in the air conditioning, drinking espressos and wine and watch the game from the comfort of home instead! it was a very exciting game, and unfortunately holland didnt win the game, but coming second in the world is pretty freakin awesome, so hooray! it was funny thoug, we looked outside while the game was on, and there were NO cars on the road! funny.

today is monday, and we slept in, then headed into amsterdam in the afternoon. we walked through the town, posted some more stuff home, then walked down to the heineken brewery to do the heineken tour.

the heineken tour is so cool, i definately recommend doing it, it was so well presented, and it actually made me sad that i didnt like beer!
Joseph loves how they just build a new building over an old one :)

last day in holland today, we decided to walk down to the local shopping area again and visit the Nieuw Land museum, which tells you how they made all the dykes and reclaimed the land.
it was really interesting, and its designed for kids too, with lots of interactive things for them to do, including a small water play thing.

we took henk and marina out for a farewell dinner, they chose a yummy shanghai restaurant, and we ate till we could barely move, then rolled home for a coffee and spent the evening chatting for the last time.
Josephs lovely cousins, and our hosts in Holland, Marina and Henk :)
