WEEK 7 - LONDON - sunday 6 june - wednesday 9 june 2010

Wednesday, July 21, 2010 | |

we met up with a few contiki people for late breakfast at 11am and said more goodbyes, then headed over to emma and chris’s place. they have a lovely apartment in deptford bridge right by the tube station, which is super handy, and we were so grateful for a place to stay, london is so expensive! you can easily spend money like water here. it just evaporates!
emma made us pimms cocktails on arrival, which was so cool, and then packed us a beautiful picnic and we tubed to greenwich park and had a picnic under the shelter of trees, as it started drizzling the second we started our picnic, funny! we then strolled through the park and the rose gardens and saw squirrels [very exciting] and it was just such a lovely relaxing evening after such a hectic tour [thanks guys!].

on monday we just chilled, did washing and headed out for lunch with contiki friend Gemma, and had giant burgers at gbk [run by kiwis] so we got a kiwi burger YUM.

then met leanne for a pint at the pub in the evening.

on tuesday we headed to oxford square and attempted shopping, oh my gosh, its like christmas time there, but its a tuesday afternoon! crazy! got a pair of replacement jeans for 8 pounds, not as nice as my lees, but theyll do for now! we went to the supermarket and got ingredients for dinner and made a yummy shepherds pie, and found this yum bolagnaise sauce made by gordon ramsey, but it has all natural ingredients, and its AMAZING. we need it in nz. and its got no preservatives or additives, its all real ingredients! woohoo!

on wednesday we packed up and headed out on the tube to get to gatwick airport. the one thing that amazes me about london is the fact that everyone uses cash, yet there are hardly any atms, and when you do find one, it either charges you 2 pounds to take money out, or is out of order, or wont accept your card, even though it says it will. drove me a little bit crazy, and meant we missed our first bus to the airport, because joseph had to go on a 30min tiki tour on foot trying to find an atm that would give us money so we could catch the bus! but all was well, we caught the next bus, made it to the airport, and the only hiccup was security thinking my medication was a bomb. when i tried to show them the paperwork, they ignored me, x-rayed my medicine for about 2 minutes, then said ‘theres an electronic device in there’ and i said, ‘yes i know, its a thermometer’, so they bomb checked it, and then couldnt be bothered reading the accompanying paperwork. so silly that they kicked up such a fuss, but didnt want to see proof of what i was carrying!
we arrived in dubrovnik and got to our motel at 8pm, and went in search of food, and found the yummiest little place, and got chicken, procuitto, cheese and salad in a pita bread thing for $6, sooooo good! :)
